hymn to the fallen
Composer John Williams produced the soundtrack, which was recorded at Symphony Hall by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.
Soundtrack opener "Hymn to the Fallen" has received some radio play. As a band member, sometimes you find yourself humming your part in the car before you realize, "This isn't the melody... how do I know this piece?" That actually happened to me last week as a clip from my second page of this musical work was played on the radio program "This American Life", and I heard myself forecasting the big, quick intervals we play in the flute section, a swelling and heartfelt passage. But I digress...
Hymn to the Fallen, with its military drum and vocals, serves "as a memory to those who have fallen in combat. Spielberg chose to place "Hymn to the Fallen" on the closing credits because it will "stand the test of time and honor forever the fallen of this war and possibly all wars" and felt it showed Williams' "sensitivity and brilliance."The album was released on July 21, 1998." - Allmusic Media Guide.
